Now I'm sucked in. Who were the Nit Wits? I have never heard of them. Also what on earth is a lobby card. Fantastic fantastic find.

The NITWITS, though not mentioned by that specific term, were two characters portrayed by Bert Wheeler and Robert Woolsey in the 1935 film THE NITWITS. Wheeler and Woolsey were a popular comedy team of the 30's. The pair relied on the comic personas of likeable man child (Wheeler)and scheming con man (Woolsey). Both performers were also song and dance men.
Lobby cards were 11" x 14" adverts placed in a film theatre's lobby (or elsewhere)to promote upcoming films. The eye catching cards usually came in sets of eight and showed close-ups and various scenes from the film.

"The Nitwits" is my favorite film by Wheeler & Woolsey. It has a wild third act that has the team and some other characters menaced by a villain in a glowing skeleton costume. Because of that, I'm featuring it in my blog-to-book project "Scared Silly: Classic Hollywood Horror-Comedies" (http://scaredsillybypaulcastiglia.blogspot.com). It's definitely worth a watch next time it comes on TCM.
