The Ruth Gordon is amazing!
You can totally see her face in "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" right through "Harold and Maude"!

I'm guessing the Lombard picture is from her Mack Sennett era, about 1927 or so. She looks slightly heavier than at other times in her career; Sennett liked his bathing beauties to have some curves.

Its is remarkable, and that photo was taken about 18 years before she appeared in Abe Lincoln in Illinois.

Im sure youre right about the year being 1927. I have the photo credited to 1921. Lombard appeared in the Mack Sennett produced A Perfect Crime in 1921, and James Abbe co-directed with Sennett the short Home Talent in 1921, so all three did have a connection for that year. Carole would have been only 12 or 13 years old in 1921, and judging by the way she fills out that bathing suit, Id say your 1927 guess is much more accurate.

I once met a girl who at 10 looked exactly like an 18 year old, no kidding! So you never know.

The Ann Harding photo took my breath away. I want to give Helen Hayes a hug! Mae West is one of those people who look totally different when they smile from when they're serious. And I want Ina Claire's outfit. :)

I think the Carole Lombard photo and it's correct date might be in James Abbe's Stars of the 20's book, but Im not positive. Did you see the hair on Ann Harding? And it looks like it went all the way down to her waist. I wonder how the rumor that Mae West was just a man in drag ever got started?

Great photos!

But where's Abbe's great shot of a nude Bessie Love warming herself in front of his fireplace?
