Breathtaking posters, every one of them. I love train travel!
This reminds me of September 1996, when I fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine and went coast-to-coast by train -- first the Lake Shore Limited from New York to Chicago, then the now-defunct Desert Wind from Chicago to southern California. Marvelous scenery.
Every American should travel cross-country at ground level at least once in their lifetime. It gives you a grasp of the scale of this country, the diverse geography, and makes one more fully appreciate America's westward development.
Wow, lucky you - what an adventure that must have been! That's the best way to see the country. The only train travel experience for me was a short scenic ride via the Steamtown National Historic site.
