Pressbook and lobby card for the 1924 film Silk Stocking Sal. Produced by Gothic Pictures and released by FBO, the film starred Evelyn Brent and was directed by Tod Browning. This 16 page pressbook offered suggestions, gimmicks, press releases, prepared reviews, catchlines, notices, advertising, a musical programme, and just about every other type of publicity needed by theatre owners to hype a picture and attract filmgoers.
Fascinating! Has the film survived?
ReplyDeleteHi VP,
ReplyDeleteThe FBO press agents must have had to work overtime in order to come up with all those gimmicks and press releases. I found no film holdings in any of the major U.S. archives or the BFI.
