Gosh, it's been too long since last I saw Mandalay and The Keyhole, two of my favorite Kay Francis movies. I noticed you added a link to a recording of "One Way Passage." Have you heard Francis's other radio performances on Lux? I might review "My Bill" on 3 March, to coincide with its original broadcast in 1941.
Hi Harry, I used to have the One Way Passage link on my website, but then lost all the links, and when the site was redone, forgot to put it back up. I've never heard any of Francis' other radio performances though. I know her Lux Radio Theater performances, along with One Way Passage and My Bill, include The Rains Came, In Name Only and Never In This World. Im looking forward to the My Bill review as I think it also stars another favorite of mine, Warren William. This link might be of interest: http://www.live365.com/cgi-bin/directory.cgi?genre=old%20time%20radio
I've got recordings of four of Francis's Lux performances. Warren William? Yes, the star of Skycraper Souls (and Colbert's costar in Cleopatra and Imitation of Life) is heard opposite Francis in the radio adaptation of My Bill. Not long before his death, he auditioned for his own radio series, United States Postal Inspector (of which I have a recording), but it didn't get picked up. Francis had numerous radio roles; I have a recording of Arch Oboler's "Dark World," with Francis in the lead as a corpse. Cheers, Harry
Checking on Francis' radio roles, it looks like she performed 43 times from 1939 to 1949, with one lone performance in 1953. Most roles were on Hollywood Hotel, Lux Radio Theater, Silver Theater and Stage Door Canteen. I'll have to check out more of her radio work.
