Argggh...are you teasing me, Evelyn? The first image is the only Bolles, and it may be just the girls as the military men look just a bit too gruff for Bolles. Thanks for sharing this. Jack
Thanks for the info Jack. I was definitely fooled by the second image.
Hi Michaele. I thought the first two were by Bolles, for sure, the third maybe (the pose was on, but the face didnt look quite right), but probably more likely done by someone else "in the style of" Bolles, and the fourth, probably not.
Oh gosh, Michelle & Jim, it took me years to get to the point where I could be sure about what was a Bolles and what wasn't, and sometimes I still am not 100% sure. As you rightly point out, there were a lot of artists working in a style similar to Bolles.
He did nudes for Tattle Tales, Stolen Sweets and several other "unde the counter" titles. None were ever signed and the publishers of were constantly harassed by the authorities. I have published several examples on my flickr page under bollesbiggestfan. He also did some unpublished nudes too and I'll get around to posting them one of these days. Thanks for your interest and of course, thanks to Jim for this forum.

Whew! Sure glad I saw Jack's comment before I said something stupid like they all are Bolles!

Thanks for adding me to your blogroll! I'm amazed by all the precode pictures you have here. :)

Hi Jack,
The second and third illustrations appear to be signed, but I couldnt quite make them out.
Did Bolles draw many nudes? I ask because I found a scan of Tattle Tales magazine from July 1933 featuring the only nude Ive ever seen by Bolles.
