Charlotte Greenwood in So Long Letty

Zany, high stepping, larger than life comedienne Charlotte Greenwood stars in So Long Letty 1929. Letty also stars Claude Gillingwater, Grant Withers, Bert Roach, Patsy Ruth Miller, Marion Byron, and Helen Foster, but it's Greenwood's show all the way.

Now I know what photo to use next time I want to criticize the cosmetics industry (3rd photo.) And the 4th is also good for giving pointers on how to keep marital happiness.

It's funny, because the cosmetic industry gets a little going over in this one. Letty's husband is unhappy with her because he thinks she spends way too much time getting facials(#3), and socializing, and not enough time making supper and taking care of the house(#4). He and the neighbor decide to swap wives. Letty's husband will get the neighbors homebody wife, and the neighbor will get the more gregarious Letty. Photo #4 is where the wives accept the agreement and in her despair, Letty howls out like a wolf. Letty puts her relacement husband through the paces, and his disgust is shown in photo #6. Letty's husband quickly tires of the same old dull routine with his swapped wife, and attempts to return to his Letty.(#7)

That's what I keep telling my husband: "I know the house is a mess, honey, but think of what an interesting person that makes me!" That's usually when he grabs the frying pan.

Kept thinking of Fanny Brice as I looked at these.

I expect you've already seen these Kay Francis pics, but just in case you haven't: http://greenbriarpictureshows.blogspot.com/2006/01/pre-code-fave-kay-francis-kay-francis.html

I agree! And the messier the house, the more interesting the person....at least thats what I tell myself.
When he grabs the frying pan, tell him to put some food in it.

Fanny Brice is an interesting comparison. Both performers also come across as really big...maybe a little too big, when seen on film. Perhaps their unique talents were best suited to stage performances.

Thanks! he always has photos that I never see anywhere else, and they are usually nice and big.
